Hi, I'm Stacy, and I graduated from college in 2006. I am not condoning plagarism of any kind, but am putting my essays online to help with general writer's block. Learning by example is one of the most widely recognized methods of self instruction and effective tutoring. Feel free to read one of my essays to help you write your own! Donations are appreciated. The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) website (http://www.fairus.org) reinforces their immigration reduction stance within the United States. FAIR promotes policies to “improve border security, stop illegal immigration, and to reduce legal immigration into the United States.” It is a national, non-profit organization with more than 198,000 members. This website twists facts into fiction, but a person who believes in their ideology would trust their “facts.” FAIR states that they are non-partisan, but majority of politicians and members supporting them come from a conservative and/or Republican background. There are four tiers of membership levels, and the website also makes it easy for individuals to donate to the organization. The website has an easy-to-view design with a patriotic (red, white, and blue) color scheme. There are pictures of happy, smiling individuals of different races (Asian, African, and Caucasian) as if to prove that FAIR is not being bigots or racists. Key topics, such as “Illegal Aliens,” “Overcrowding,” “Border Control,” “Environmental Impact,” and “Housing Shortage” show a clear war between “Illegal Aliens” and “Americans.” The main message lumps together all forms of immigration as bad, and the reader should take this information as unbiased or factual in any way.
The Minuteman Project (http://www.minutemanproject.com) is an initiative by a group of private citizens to monitor the United States and Mexican border, attempting to identify and stop the entry of illegal immigrants. The website, like the previous site mention, displays patriotism. There is the red, white and blue color scheme, an Uncle Sam “We Want You” volunteer recruitment image, and the banner has a strong connection to the minutemen who fought in the American Revolution. The website quotes the U.S. Constitution and leaders like MLK Jr. and President JFK, to falsely portray them as anti-immigration. There are few images and several pages of text on each topic (Minuteman pledge, training manual, history page, donation page, congressional reports, etc.). This organization runs on donations. Many members and volunteers appear to be retirees. A main page claims that Governor Rick Perry vowed to send $10 million to border counties to help deputies patrol the Texas-Mexico border, leading the reader to believe it is a donation towards the Minuteman (as the biased website states), but this is incorrect. The website is used to keep members updated, recruit volunteers, seek help from prosecuting attorneys (specifically those trained in immigration law, tax evasion, and civil rights), receive donations, and spread their agenda on the internet. The American Resistance website (http://www.theamericanresistance.com) uses the typical patriotism tactics when it comes to design. The language is very abrasive. They refer to the U.S. as “ours” (meaning non-immigrant citizens) and that “our nation is being invaded and colonized.” Illegal immigration is referred to as “organized crime,” and those that support immigration are their “powerful enemies.” The website constantly thanks Border Patrol agents (while calling them brave) as often as it asks for donations, and links to many websites with the same agenda against immigration. There is a lengthy article about the “numbers of illegal aliens in the United States,” quoting various individuals and providing “facts” with no references to where they are from. If a reader wishes to make an intelligent and informed position on immigration, this is not the website to read.
